A good range hood keeps your kitchen clean and comfortable by extracting the steam, smoke, grease and odours from cooking, and a ducted hood that vents outside is the most effective. Our licensed electricians install and connect range hoods, handle the ducting to vent outside where possible, remove and replace old hoods, and can connect your oven and cooktop at the same time, all to the AS/NZS 3000 standard. We leave your kitchen with effective, properly vented extraction. We install and connect range hoods across Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, with same-day service where we can and an upfront fixed price.

Install Range Hood

Why a good range hood matters

A range hood (or rangehood) extracts the steam, smoke, grease and cooking odours produced when you cook, keeping your kitchen cleaner, fresher and more comfortable. Without effective extraction, grease and moisture settle on your cabinets, walls and ceiling, odours linger through the home, and steam adds to humidity and condensation. A good range hood removes all of this at the source, over the cooktop, protecting your kitchen surfaces and improving air quality. Whether you are fitting a new kitchen, replacing a tired old hood, or adding extraction where there is none, a properly installed and vented range hood makes a real difference. We install and connect range hoods across Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Ducted vs recirculating range hoods

Range hoods work in one of two ways, and the difference matters for how effective they are. A ducted range hood vents the extracted air, steam, smoke, grease and odours, outside through ducting, which is the most effective option because it removes everything from the kitchen entirely. A recirculating hood passes the air through filters (including a charcoal filter for odours) and returns it to the kitchen, which is used where ducting outside is not possible, such as some apartments or island installations, but it is less effective, especially at removing steam and heat. Where it is feasible, we recommend and install ducted hoods for the best results, and we will advise which suits your kitchen.

Types of range hoods we install

We install all the main types of range hood to suit your kitchen and cooktop:

  • Fixed and slide-out undercabinet hoods, mounted under a cabinet above the cooktop
  • Canopy and wall-mounted hoods, a feature above the cooktop against the wall
  • Island hoods, suspended from the ceiling over an island cooktop
  • Integrated and concealed hoods, built into the cabinetry
  • Downdraft extraction systems

We connect and, where ducted, vent each type correctly. We will help you get the right hood installed and working effectively, whether you have chosen it or want advice on what suits your kitchen layout and cooktop.

Ducting the range hood outside

For a ducted range hood, correct ducting is what makes it effective, and getting it right is an important part of the installation. The ducting should take the extracted air outside via the shortest practical route through the wall or roof, with minimal bends, as long or convoluted ducting reduces extraction. We install or connect the ducting to vent the hood properly outside, ensuring good airflow and a weatherproof external vent. Poor or missing ducting, or a hood that just vents into the cupboard or roof space, defeats the purpose and can cause grease and moisture problems. We make sure your ducted hood is vented correctly, so it actually removes the steam, smoke and grease from your kitchen.

Replacing an old range hood

Replacing an old, tired or ineffective range hood is a common job and usually straightforward, as the power and often the ducting are already there, though we check both suit the new hood. Old hoods become noisy, lose extraction power as the motor and filters wear, and look dated. A modern replacement is quieter, more effective, and often more efficient with LED lighting. We remove and dispose of the old hood, connect the new one, check and if needed improve the ducting, and test it. If you are upgrading your kitchen or simply replacing a hood that no longer extracts well, we can fit a new one that keeps your kitchen clean, fresh and comfortable.

Electrical connection

A hard-wired range hood must be connected to the power safely and to the wiring standard, which is licensed electrical work. We connect the hood to a suitable supply, ensuring the connection is safe and the hood is properly earthed and protected. Some hoods plug into a dedicated outlet, while others are hardwired, and we handle either correctly. We also ensure the hood is on an appropriate circuit. Getting the electrical connection right is essential for safe operation, which is why this is a job for a licensed electrician rather than a DIY install. We complete the electrical side to AS/NZS 3000, so your range hood is connected safely and reliably.

Range hoods, ovens and cooktops

The range hood is part of your kitchen cooking setup along with the oven and cooktop, and we can install and connect all three together. This is efficient when fitting a new kitchen or upgrading appliances, and ensures each appliance has the correct supply, electric ovens and cooktops often need their own dedicated circuits, while the range hood is a lighter load. We make sure the switchboard can handle the combined load and that everything is connected safely and to standard. Note that gas cooktops require a licensed gas fitter for the gas connection, which we can arrange. We coordinate the whole cooking setup so it is installed correctly and works together.

Positioning the range hood

Correct positioning of the range hood is important for effective extraction and safe clearance. The hood needs to be mounted at the right height above the cooktop, high enough for safety and clearance, but low enough to capture the steam, smoke and grease effectively, and the manufacturer specifies this clearance, which differs for gas and electric cooktops. The hood should also be sized to cover the cooktop. We install the hood at the correct height and position for effective extraction and compliant clearance, so it captures the cooking by-products rather than letting them escape into the kitchen. Getting the positioning right is part of a proper installation that makes the hood genuinely effective.

Range hood lighting

Range hoods include lighting over the cooktop, which is both practical, illuminating your cooking area, and part of the kitchen’s overall lighting. Modern hoods use efficient LED lighting that is bright, long-lasting and low-energy, a step up from the dim or power-hungry globes in older hoods. When we install or replace a range hood, the lighting is connected and working as part of the job. If you are replacing an old hood partly because its light has failed or is dim, a new hood with good LED task lighting over the cooktop is a noticeable improvement. We ensure the hood’s lighting works properly, giving you clear light over your cooktop.

Keeping your kitchen clean and fresh

The real benefit of an effective, properly vented range hood is a cleaner, fresher, more comfortable kitchen. By extracting grease at the source, it keeps your cabinets, walls, ceiling and surfaces from becoming coated in a sticky grease film that is hard to clean and builds up over time. By removing steam and heat, it reduces humidity and condensation. And by clearing cooking odours, it stops smells lingering through the home. A good hood genuinely protects your kitchen and makes cooking more pleasant. If your current extraction is poor or non-existent and you are noticing grease build-up, lingering smells or steamy windows when you cook, an effective range hood is the solution.

How much does it cost?

The cost of installing a range hood depends on the type of hood, whether it is a replacement or a new installation, and whether ducting needs to be run or improved to vent outside. Replacing an existing ducted hood using the current ducting and power is the quickest and cheapest; a new installation needing fresh ducting through the wall or roof, and a power connection, is more involved. Island hoods and concealed hoods can be more complex. We assess the job and give you an upfront fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises, and we will advise on the most effective setup for your kitchen within your budget.

Licensed, compliant electricians

Our licensed electricians install and connect range hoods of all types to the AS/NZS 3000 standard, duct them outside for effective extraction, position them at the correct clearance, and can connect your oven and cooktop too. You get effective, properly vented extraction, honest advice on the right hood and setup, upfront fixed pricing, tidy work and guaranteed workmanship. Range hood FAQs

Do I need an electrician to install a range hood?

A hard-wired range hood connection is licensed electrical work. We connect it safely and correctly, and handle the ducting too.

Should a range hood vent outside?

A ducted range hood that vents outside is the most effective, removing steam, smoke, grease and odours from the kitchen. Recirculating hoods filter and return the air where ducting is not possible.

Can you replace my old range hood?

Yes. We remove the old hood, connect the new one, and check the ducting and power supply are suitable.

Can you duct a range hood externally?

Yes. We can install or connect ducting to vent the hood outside through the wall or roof for the best extraction.

Why is my kitchen steamy and greasy?

Poor or no extraction lets steam, grease and odours build up. An effective, ducted range hood removes them, keeping your kitchen cleaner.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the hood, whether ducting is needed, and the connection. We give you an upfront fixed price before we start.

Can you install the hood with my oven and cooktop?

Yes. We can connect range hoods, ovens and cooktops together, ensuring each has the correct supply.

Do you service my area?

Yes, we install and connect range hoods across Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, with same-day service where we can.

Matt was very friendly & approachable & his workmanship is top shelf. I would recommend Matt to anyone needing any plumbing work done around their home or business. Yours sincerely, Philip Munro.
Yesterday we had a blow out on our electric meter box and we contacted Same Day Trades for assistance as we had lost all power to the house. They were on sites within 4 hours and Jess gave us the bad news. We would need a complete rebuild on the meter box. He gave us a quote that nearly blue us away, however when he explained that all components were top quality and as it was late in the afternoon he would get us temporarily back on line that evening and tomorrow the boys would install a brand new switch board. Cameron and Jordan were on the job at 7.30am and laboured most of the day with the installation. They overcame a few obstacles successfully and completed the job to our satisfaction. Overall a job well done.
Had Cameron here for a RCD issue. He was great, explained everuthing got the whole job done that day! Thanks Cam. Great job thank you.
Coda I can’t thank him enough for everything he did with my power today! Can’t rate him high enough. Changing a power board to new. Smart, reliable, caring
Jordan was quick, efficient and communicated really effectively about our plumbing issues today. Not only that, but he bonded with our elderly dog. 🥰 Unfortunately, we do have to have further work because of the age of the pipes, but the quotes were very reasonable. Same Day Trades did come out on the same day and Jordan did a great job.
