Wall-mounting your TV

Wall-mounting a TV is about more than hanging it on a bracket, it needs to be fixed securely to the wall structure so it is safe, level, and at the right height and position for comfortable viewing. We use the correct bracket for your TV and the right fixings for your wall, and locate the mount into the studs or masonry so it safely bears the weight. A poorly mounted TV is a real hazard if it comes loose. We can fit fixed, tilting or full-motion brackets depending on how you want to position and angle the TV. The result is a TV mounted safely, level and exactly where you want it, for the best viewing.

Concealing the cables

One of the biggest differences between a DIY and a professional TV install is the cables. We conceal the power, antenna, HDMI and other cables for a clean, cable-free look, either by running them inside the wall cavity (the tidiest option) or in neat cable trunking where in-wall is not possible. Running cables in the wall usually involves installing a power point and an antenna or data point behind the TV, so nothing hangs down. A wall-mounted TV with cables dangling below looks unfinished; concealing them gives the clean, built-in look most people want. We hide the cabling neatly as part of the installation, so your mounted TV looks its best.

Power points behind the TV

To run the power cable inside the wall for a clean look, there needs to be a power point behind the TV, and we can install one. Mounting a TV and then running its power cable down the outside of the wall to a floor-level outlet looks untidy, so we install a recessed power point (and an antenna or data point) behind the TV, allowing the cables to run inside the wall out of sight. Installing a power point is licensed electrical work, which our electricians do to the standard. This is a key part of a clean TV installation, so if you want your mounted TV to have no visible cables, we install the point behind it to make that possible.

Antenna, data and HDMI connections

Beyond power, your TV needs its other connections run and concealed too, the antenna cable for reception, and often data (ethernet) for streaming and HDMI for connected devices like a soundbar, console or media box. We run and conceal these cables as part of the install, and can add an antenna point or data point behind the TV. If your reception is poor, we can check and improve the antenna and cabling too. We make sure all the connections your TV and its devices need are run neatly and working, so you are not left with a mounted TV that looks clean but is missing the connections to actually use it fully.

Any wall type

We mount TVs on all wall types, and the right fixings and approach differ for each. Plasterboard (stud) walls need the mount fixed into the timber or steel studs, not just the plasterboard, to safely hold the weight. Brick and masonry walls need the correct masonry anchors. Tiled walls need careful drilling to avoid cracking tiles. We have the tools and experience to mount securely on any of these, locating the structure and using the right fixings so your TV is safely held. A TV mounted into plasterboard alone, without hitting a stud, is a serious hazard, so getting the fixing right for the wall type is essential, and we do.

TVs above fireplaces

Mounting a TV above a fireplace is a popular, space-saving choice, but it needs doing carefully, considering the height for comfortable viewing, the heat from the fireplace, and running the cables, which can be trickier with a fireplace below. We mount TVs above fireplaces securely, position them at a sensible height, and conceal the cabling neatly, often installing a power and antenna point behind the TV and running cables to a media unit beside or below. Where heat is a concern, we advise on safe clearances. If you want your TV above the fireplace as a feature, we can install it properly, mounted securely, at the right height, with the cables hidden, for a clean result.

Outdoor TV installation

An outdoor TV in an alfresco or entertaining area is great for watching the game or relaxing outside, but it needs an outdoor-rated TV and a weatherproof installation, as a normal TV and standard fittings will not survive outdoors. We install outdoor TVs with suitable weatherproof mounts, weatherproof power points and connections, and concealed, protected cabling, all rated for outdoor conditions. We position the TV for good viewing and to minimise glare and weather exposure. TV reception and antennas

A wall-mounted TV is only as good as its reception, so if your signal is poor, we can sort the antenna and cabling as part of the install. Poor reception, pixelation or dropouts can come from a faulty or misaligned antenna, old cabling, corroded connections, or a weak signal split too many ways. We can connect and check the antenna feed to your mounted TV, add an antenna point behind it, and if needed, realign or upgrade the antenna and cabling to get a clear picture. There is no point mounting a great TV neatly if the reception is poor, so we make sure the signal is good as well as the mounting tidy.

Soundbars and devices

Many people mount a TV along with a soundbar and connected devices, a media box, console, or streaming device, and we can set these up neatly too. We can mount a soundbar below the TV, run the HDMI and other cables to it and to your devices concealed, and make sure everything is connected and working. We can also install the power and data points needed for the devices.
